A five-measurement check for doors, turns, stairs, and the sofa itself. The fastest way to prepare is to make the load, access path, and restricted material easy to identify before anyone arrives.
Start with the route, not the sofa
Walk from the room to the loading area. Note the narrowest doorway, hallway, stair landing, elevator opening, gate, and turn. A sofa that fits through one door can still stop at a tight corner.
Record five useful measurements
Measure sofa width, height, depth, diagonal depth, and the narrowest point on the exit path. Remove loose cushions before measuring, but do not assume legs or arms can be detached.
Flag the awkward parts
Tell the pickup team about stairs, glass doors, low ceilings, delicate floors, long carries, or parking limits. Those details help determine crew size and moving equipment.
Quick handoff checklist
- Photograph the full load for scale.
- Count bulky items and identify dense material.
- Note stairs, gates, elevators, and parking.
- Keep hazardous or unknown material separate.
- Confirm what stays before the crew starts.
